"Remember nobility comes from the heart..."
BIRFDAY SHOUTOUT: A very happy birfday shout out goes to my dear friend kristel fama from YFC. She's one of the first uci yfcers from irvine 2 years ago. Wow I cant believe its been that long since I've known those folks. Time really does pass you by! Anyway, she's a really d0pe down to earth girl. Very friendly, funny, out going, and juss all around cool. I think she's graduating this year too. Oh yeah and she was good at the muslim routine during the pcn this past aprl. Happy birfday kristel fama, may God contiune to guide you, protect you, and shed his love upon you. Hope you had a great one!
LOST: I dont know if its juss me or if others do this too, but does stuff ever happen to you during the day that in the back of your mind youre like, I gotta blog bout this later tonite.' Then by the time you start to blog, the list of things you had planned to talk bout is gone. So you end up sitting at the computer trying to figure out some of that stuff. Then your blog ends up being tasteless and boring cuz all the good stuff you wanted to say you cant remember anymore. Oh why?! I hate when that happens, I guess thas when you know youre getting older. Ha your memory starts to fade. I forgot to add fr. paul to the june birfday list, maan its like the list for birfdays in june is never ending!
RENT: That really tight musical, called 'rent' is coming to the big screen this fall. Ive always loved the songs from that musical. Anyway, I was watching the trailor on AOL and it looks d0pe! I cant wait to see the movie now! I was reading on dorthee's blog bout the defintion of the word 'rent' it having two different meanings. Besides the one that we are all familar with, rent also means: (its A past tense and a past participle of rend.)
An opening made by rending; a rip.
A breach of relations between persons or groups; a rift.
I think the musical teaches us really how to not only, embrace the present, but also embrace the people in our present lives and the things we have. Hmm I think the words 'thankful' or 'grateful' sounds fitting to describe it all.
FAMILY GUY: I love that cartoon, mike tm burnt me a copy of one of the seasons and I juss finished disc 1 last nite. Errscene cracks me, it makes me laugh so hard and so loud that I have to lower my voice. Its wha the characters do and the theme of each episode is wha makes the show so funny. How you have peter and chris who are incredibly stupid. Then you have brian, the dog who acts like a regular human. The sister meg,(?) who is real nerdy and their mom whos I dont even know how to describe her. THen of course the baby, stewart who wants to take over the world ha. You should watch it cuz it's great!
INTERVIEW ONE: Thanks for your prayers, my interview yesterday at Blessed Katera church went real well. Its so funny cuz the first thing we started to do was pray. I've never gone to a job interview where they say 'lets pray first' so that was cool. The position was for a confirmation coordinator and wow its a lot of work and time. THough it sounded like a lot fun as well. Putting together and coordinating a whole program for a parish. The more I thought bout it on the way home, I realized its too freakin far and its not worth the pay to drive down there almost errday. So if they end up calling back and offering me the position(hopefully they dont) then Imma have to turn it down. Though the person who interviewed me seemed real interested in what I had to say.
THE BATCAVE: That parish is confusing cuz the churhc first of all is like the cathedral. Its not of your normal churches that stand out. It was kinda hidden this residential area. Walking on the grounds of the church is even worse! I had the hardest time looking for the parish office. I had to walk thorugh this door that lead downstairs to another door that was to the parish office. Downstairs under the church/worship area(basically) is where all the offices are. The church is juss a parish no school attached or anything like that. Oh yeah a lot of the offices are used for other things too. For example, the youf ministry office is also the bride's room. One of the confessionals is used for parish planner's office. Pretty crazy huh? Then the middle floor is the worship center/church. Its like a ballroom type of environment with chairs and a altar. Theyre loaded on tech. equipment in that room. Going upstairs was this huge storage area which was suppose to be the rectory. The priest live across the street in these apartments. On top of all that, they have plans for a new church, that hasnt even broken ground yet. I felt like I was in wayne manor or something.
THE DRIVE: The drive was juss too long, I knew santa clarita would be far, but I didnt expect to be as far as it was. It took me hmm at least and hour and a half to get to the church. I was still a little early too, so I spent time in chapel in front of the blessed sacarment. On the way home, I missed a turn and I ended up getting lost for a good 15 min. in these resedential homes. There's a lot of homes that theyre building over there. Its a pretty wealthy area to live in. The drive home wasnt too bad, but it would be too stressful to drive back and forth errday. I was only wha 2-3 exits away from magic mtn. I mine as well have gone thurr right after! ha
KEEPIN IT GOING: After all that driving and wha not, I still managed to gather up enough energy to go back to the track. I wanted to at least make 3 days in a row straight. Is funny there's this square from where I park that I like to stretch out before runninng. I only did a mile and a power walk warm up lap but it was still something. Even at 830pm in th evening there are still people jogging on the track. When Im running I always like to think its some type of race and I gotta catch up to the people in front of me to win. ha It works sometimes cuz it helps me to pick up the pace a little bit.
ELVIS MILE: When I was in cross country tuesday were always our 'sprint' days. Instead of running distance, we'd practice on speed and endurance. We did this called the 'elvis mile' I dont know why it was called this cuz it has nothign to do w/elvis. I was telling rob bout this when we were running on wed. Anyway, it goes like this, you do it in laps kinda pacing yourself. You run half way sprinting as fast as you can. Then the other half you walk it off, cooling down again. Oh yeah you time yourself for each of the half laps you run. After finishing cooling off you start again, sprinting halfway then walking the other half. So you do this 4 times(in order to make a mile)then checking your times and seeing where you've improved. Its pretty effective cuz it pushes you to go fast. So say youre close to the finish and there's someone in front of you, you can push yourself to go past that person. Thhen you wont be in last place yay!
HOUSESITTING: Starting next wednesday, imma be housesitting for my boss in irvine. I kinda regret volunteering now cuz having to drive back and forth to irvine errday adds extra stuff to do on my 'to do list.' I went there today and its a pretty cool kick back place, two dogs, two cats, a pool, a spa, a tivo, and I think im set to go. Im not sure if I want to spend the nite thurr cuz I feel weird sleeping over at house im housesitting for, unless its someone I know real well. He told me I could have friends over too if I wanted. ANyone want to come and hang out w/me? ha
PRE-INTERVIEW TWO: So I had my second interview today in pasadena at 'Assumption of Blessed Virgin Mary' church. Its not as modernized as most of the other churches in the archdiocese, so its kinda cool. I wasnt sure how the traffic was going to be, so I left like 3 hours before I was suppose to get there. Well the traffic wasnt even really that made, I thhink it made out there in 30 min. or so. Which was perfect cuz they were having adoration in the chapel anyway, so I stayed in the chapel for that time being. Its been a while siince I've actually took time out to sit in front of the Blessed Sacarment, it was perfect.
INTERVIEW TWO: After benediction, I met w/the priest, he seemed older over the phone. Really cool guy, we went to his office and talked described to me the parish. He's only been the pastor there for almost year. In facct he's a pretty young priest only 46. He told me a lot of the changes he's kinda had to make in the parish. How there are others who are real upset w/him cuz of the changes, then there are others who like it. He told me the parish he had came from before the one he was at now was real active andn this parish was the opposite, so it was depressing. Basically, there's no youf ministry at the parish and he's really into youf. The person who would get the position would be in charge of youf ministry and be the confirmation coordinator as well. Maan a lot of work! He sounded like he wanted me for the position but he wants me to go back and meet w/some of the people doing it now. The pay and how the hours work he doesnt know(hes not a very good administrator). I would have to meet with the parish manager to work all that out.
THE WHOS: My interview was a real kick back informal type of interview. This priest totally reminds me of a skinny fr. paul. They have the same type of personality and views on teachings of hte church. Ill tell you this much, this pastor is not a conservative, yet isnt a liberal either. I guess he's more of 'in the middle' type of guy, which isnt too bad as long as he isnt liberal. He told me at the parish you have a rainbow of errthang, conversatives, liberals, and modernisits. Oh yeah this is kinda weird too, the priest doesnt want me addressing him as 'father' but rather by his name. I am interested in the position it all depends though on the pay and hours.
DINNER: After our intial informal interview, I had to have dinner with the msgr., the pastor, and this bishop visiting from africa. The msgr. was the previous pastor of the parish for 25 years and is a real conservative. He's a really cool guy, he was sharing his stories on his visits with JPII. He described JPII as having a real good memory, I was getting goosebumps when he was telling the story. He even got to see JPII one last time this past oct. before he passed away. What's cool too is msgr. got to work with Pope Benedict before he was Pope though obviously. Then the bishop was talking bout cardinal sin how when the bishop went to the PI, the cardinal welcomed him into his home and said, 'welcome to the house of sin' hahaha! I thought that was funny but the pastor and msgr. was saying how the cardinal has family who goes to the parish. And the cardinal has even came by a few timees to visit.
FUNNY BUT SAD: Msgr. was talking bout his recent 'priest retreat' he had juss came back from. It was at St. John's seminary I think it was? ANyway, well Cardinal Mahoney was there and he was showing a slide show of the JPII funeral. Well apparently a lot of the priests were kinda like 'duh this is nothing to us, its not like we havent seen all these pictures before.' Then one priest I think brought up the issue of the church scandals and the cardinal kinda avoided the question. He knew exactly how to go around it and dodge it. Yeah the msgr. isnt too fond of the cardinal(I wonder why).
REMINDER: Remind me to talk bout that movie 'The man in the iron mask' for next entry, im pretty tired. Ive been driving all over the world it feels like...
"How do you measure, measure a year in the life..."im done, im out GOd bless!
