He Is Exalted on High

"Power is responsibility: It is service, not a privilege..."

When I read this quote, the first thing that came into mind was Spiderman. The whole 'with great power comes great responsibility.' Which kinda resembles this quote in a sense. Power a word received to us this weekend through the readings. Power something many people look and seek for, yet can be very dangerous. Yet what many people fail to realize that power is responsibility, it's a service you perform to others.

I had to take alaine to mass yesterday at St. Angela Merici, and well funny story kinda. She's sitting in the passenger seat on the celly not even paying attention to whurr Im going. Im driving along and she goes, 'where are you going?!' I said, 'I dont know! youre not telling me whurr to go!' Well she ends up telling me to go another way and we decide to go to St. Joseph's in placentia. Wow, no coincidence we ended up going to this parish instead. It was a life teen mass and the homily was so convicting. Well the music was juss d0pe, it was the perfect songs for the mass. One of my favs, 'he is exalted' was the perfect entrance song they chose.

So during the homily fr. talked bout the difference between divine power and earthly power. Divine power is Jesus on the cross, ruling from the cross. Earthly power is culture and wordly power. He went on to say that leadership can be a non-productive power and how its responsibility and service. Divine power is Jesus dying on the cross, not there for self-service. DUring our confirmation when we said 'yes,' we said yes to embracing that cross, we said that we will offer forgiveness to that criminal on my right, I will give my life like Christ the King. It means to hang on to the cross.

Then this is wha made me juss go wooooooooow. Well in the gospel yesterday it talked bout the two criminals that hung on the cross next to Jesus. Thurr was the unrepetant one, and the repetant one. Fr. went on to analyze the bof of them, and how as weird as it may seem we tend to be more like the unrepetant then the repetant. We become the unrepetant theif b/c when we pray we say to Jesus, 'well if youre Jesus, cmon then end world hunger, end terroism, end this war, take out poverty in the streets.' When we pray or think in that mind set we become like that crowd that sneered at Jesus. How many times in our prayer life have we told God what to do? That we wanted it to be our will not his own.

This is why divine power is different than wordly power. We say stuff like that cuz we dont understand, and yet unlike the crowd who sneered at Jesus. When we may become like that crowd, we sneer with sincerity, not out of anger but very sincere. Yet God has chosen to minister from the cross. I didnt realize this until yesterday, but the gospel of luke is all bout forgiveness. Many of the parables in that gospel talk bout forgiveness, the parable of prodical son, the story of forgiving someone 7 times in one day. THen today's gospel message all bout forgiveness...divine power is forgiveness.

THen you have the repetant theif, who came to Jesus w/errthang he had. Thas us when we come to God in such humility. With humble hearts when we ask him to forgive us, when we say, 'Lord have mercy on us...' or 'Lord, I am not worth to receive you...' etc. etc. We are to give ourselves as service, we are to be there to offer reassurance, we are there to offer the gift of forgiveness, and this is our disposition as Christians. For all struggling with forgiveness, may they honor Christ the King by extending forgiveness and mercy to those who wronged them. For those seeking forgiveness, may they be cleansed by the sacarment of reconciliation and be guided by the spirit go forth and live in holiness.

So after listening to all that I was really awe struck. Very humbled, and juss all around speechless. It was d0pe how he juss presented errthang too. He got up and walked around the front of altar w/the cordless mic. THough one thing I noticed bout dioscian priests, after communion is over, they dont purify the chalice like whurr they put the water in it and wipe to make sure they got errpiece of Jesus' body. I juss noticed it that at St. I and then last nite at St. Josephs. All in all it was a really d0pe homily. Praise God!

On the side note, alaine and I went to cheesecake factory and ordered take out calamari. Oh man the line was soo freakin long to get in. The wait was incredibly long like 2-3 hours to get your table. Go fig, its a brand new restaraunt and errone wants to check it out. I bought my mom banana cream cheesecake. So, I ended up chillin at alaines helping her figure out who gave her wha for her quincinera purrty.
