THE LEGEND OF THE THREE TREES
Once upon a time three trees were standing tall dreaming what they'd like to be if trees can dream at all.
One tree said "Someday I hope to be a treasure chest. I could be filled with gold and precious gems. I would become famous and everyone would see the beauty."
The second tree said, "Someday I will be a mighty ship. I will take kings and queens across the waters and sail to the corners of the world.
The third tree said, "I want to grow to be the tallest and straightest tree in the forest. People will see how tall I am and when they look up I will point them to God.

Soon a group of woodsmen came upon the trees. When one came to the first tree they said, "This looks like a strong tree, I think I should be able to sell the wood to a carpenter"; and he began cutting it down. The tree was happy, because he knew that the carpenter would make him into a treasure chest.

At the second tree a woodsman said, "This looks like a strong tree, I should be able to sell it to the shipyard." The second tree was happy because he knew he was on his way to becoming a mighty ship.

When the woodsmen came upon the third tree, the tree was frightened because he knew that if they cut him down his dreams would not come true. But they did.

When the first tree arrived at the carpenters, he was made into a feed box for animals. He was then placed in a barn and filled with hay. This was not at all what he had hoped for.

The second tree was fashioned into a small fishing boat. His dreams of becoming a mighty ship to carry the Kings and Queens to all parts of the World had come to an end. This was not the future he had dreamed of.

The third tree was cut into two large pieces and left alone in a large storage shed -- his dreams were dashed.

Years later a man and a young woman came to seek shelter in the stable where the manger fed the livestock. The young woman gave birth to a son named Jesus and they placed the him on the hay in the feed box that was made from the first tree. In a moment the tree knew that it held the greatest treasure of all time -- our Saviour!

Later still, a group of men following the Master got into a fishing boat which was made from the second tree. The Master was so tired He soon went to sleep. While they were out on the water, a great storm arose -- the others woke the sleeping teacher who stood and said, "Peace be still " and the storm stopped. It was then that this tree knew that he carried the King of Kings.

Not much later soldiers came and got the two large timbers of the third tree out of storage. They lashed those pieces together and formed the most cruel instrument of torture and death ever devised a Roman cross. Soon to the horror of this tree the Master nailed upon it and raised high in the air to die at the top of a hill. Once He was dead they took his body away to a stone tomb where it was buried. But when Sunday came, and the Master rose from the grave suddenly what had been a symbol of torture and death was transformed into a symbol of sacrifice and victory. The cross became the tallest tree in the world and has ever since pointed people to God.

None of the three trees got exactly what they asked for but all their dreams came true.

Prayer: Thank you Jesus for both the manger and the cross. Your birth and your death that led to new life. How wonderful you are! Amen.

"Long lay the world in sin and error pining 'Til He appeared and the soul felt its worth. A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices, for yonder breaks a new and glorious morn!" im done...im out GOd bless!
