SCRC-Day One
"Never make a decision without stopping to consider the matter in the presence of God..."
Wha can i say bout SCRC except that its one conference that i ALWAYS look forward to going to each yurr. This is actually my third yurr going and my first time going as a participant. Its a nice vibe to juss sit and watch the staff run around not worrying bout doing anything. The past few yurrs i went, ive always volunteered to help staff. The first yurr was for the youf track, and last yurr was history in the making w/the first eva Young Adult track. I did the whole adult track today cuz thurs no YA on the first day. So many great themes that i took home me bout trusting in God, humility, and using the weapons God gives us to defeat evil in our daily lives.
Spent majority of the day w/jennif, she's so cute cuz she came ova this morning and made sandwhiches for our bahon. I love spending time and juss chillin w/her cuz we have so many great convos. Really d0pe person and she's so funny cuz she can be so blunt that she'll tell me how it is straight out. Which good that we have that type of friendship. As we ran into the many different peeps thurr i intro. her to them. Christy also was thurr and became our hang out buddy for the day. Good stuff!
The first talk we went to was called 'Troubled times for Trusting, not Trembling.' Wow a lot of 'T's in that talk, actually i really wished i was able to go to the Mother Regina talk, i heard it was good. Praise God that you can buy the tapes for talks! yay! So this talk was alright, the priest focused a lot on terroism. The talk was really unorganized in the beginning, we bof had a hurrd time focusing on finding a central theme. Though in the end it did get good, i guess God 'livened' him up a bit. ha He talked bout two types of wills of God. The positive and the permissible.
The positive is something that God really wants to happen and lets it happen w/o a doubt. The other one is something that he's kinda like ehh on, but permits it to happen. I leanred that God doesnt encourage evil but permits it to happen. Juss like wha happened to joel in the bible. I never realized that majority of pslams really focus on trusting in God. One thing that stuck out was when he mentioned something bout when we suffer God permits it to happen. He permits certain situations, some even maybe even being bad to happen. THough its God's positive will that allows us to see the situation at hand and see how we can grow in holiness through it. I dont know if that makes sense to you, basically its God permissive will that lets us suffer, but through his positive will he allows us to grow in holiness from it. That convicted me right thurr!
If you ever read the book of joel in the bible a lot of bad things happened to him. He went through hell being stripped of EVERYTHING he ever had. It took joel to really surrender and trust in God. Though he was submissive to God's will, he didnt trust because he lacked the insight to see God's love behind the permissive will. So basically this is an example of the whole letting suffering happen to grow in holiness. Makes you really think bout trusting God...new insight on it now.
The second talk was really good, it focused a lot on humilily. This one was called, 'I am better than you are.' Father who did this talk was made it real funny. He made a point at the beginning of his talk, that now a days errone is so consumed in being #1 that when we become #2 we get dissapointed. Example the olympics, when our fav. athelte from the US competes and does real well winning the gold medal whurr like yesss! Yet when the mens bball team ended up loosing and getting the bronze we were like awww! Fr. said thinking we are better than someone else is one of the most dangerous sentences ever. The reason why people feel this way is a deep insecurity.
Basically he discussed bout building bridges w/people, connecting them w/God's love. Same way Jesus did, let go of the pride and allow ourselves to be embraced by GOd. WE need to start looking at people other people forget. I loved how he said, the real puso of humility is facing the gifts God that God has given us and using them. Using the gifts God gave us and taking whatever comes w/it. Even if its suffering and criticism. Willing to accept and give credit to those who have gotten you whurr you are today is real humility also. Willing to listen to people w/the willingess to change is the call of a humble person. Quietly admiting that I am nothing w/o God.
Oh man Fr. Faricy's talk was juss bomb! It was like healing mass combined w/a talk almost. It talked bout Being equiped to deal with the forces of evil. He said that you need to realize thurr are such thing as evil spirits. People dont realize thurr is such a thing. We have the power to keep those spirit away from us, Jesus gave us that power. It was through this talk, this lady gave me a message from God. She told me that I have a big decision to make real soon and that God is thurr w/me helping me make that big decision. Praise God!
In this talk fr. pretty much broke down all the spiritual weapons given in ephesians 6. THe spirit of truth, which is learning bout the truth bout yourself. Learning not to rationalize and compromise your sins. He said the only failure a catholic could have is not being a saint. Wow!!! The breastplate of righteouness-Being filled w/the holy spirit, being filled w/his sanctifying grace. Being able to grow in holiness to love and recieve love. The gospel of peace-the thirst for God. Being ready to serve in readiness and eagerness. Helmet of Salvation-Purity of heart, having and striving to keep a purr heart. DOing errthang that's opposite to the bad fruits of the spirit. I put on the helmet of salvation to get rid of the impurr thoughts. To get rid of self-gratification, i want ot have the purest heart of the spirit. The
shield of faith, having faith in Jesus, a trusting faith, believing he's hurr and believe in him that he will save me. Finally the sword of the spirit-Which is the word of God, in hebrews it states that the word of God is two-edged sword. When we read/hurr the word of God, we need to take it seriously. One of the greatest weapons agaisnt the evil one. We want to recieve the word of God in our hearts, God will speak to us through it. During each one of those weapons, people whurr being healed at the same time of certain tendencies. It was freakin d0pe!
I ran into will this guy i met @ SCRC last yurr during the confession line. We ended up kinda keeping touch off and on through emails. Anyway, so i was hoping that i'd run into him again this yurr. Praise God cuz i did run into him when i walked in! It seems that he got himself involved helping out w/the YA track. I was really happy to know that he got involved w/something. He told me before that he's been going eva since he was 11 yurrs old. So its nice to know that he's applying the gifts and talents God gave him. That's my praise report for the day, so as i become inactive w/the YA core team this yurr, he took my spot. Praise God!
"You are the way, the truth, and the life we walk by faith and not by sight..."im done, im out God bless!
